I built this alphabet as an exercise. It all started with some sketches that I made during a phone call. Some images of the mod fanzines that I used to collect in the 90s came to mind. Everything started to come together very nicely. The obvious conclusion was: Let's make a display font out of this. Why? Because for me is the most fascinating task in graphic design.
I used to buy records at a vinyl store called Beltza Records in San Sebastián. The owner loved and hated us deeply. A bunch of teenagers hanging out there and asking all short of stupid questions about soul music. There was a mod guy sometimes in a little room in the back of the store. He made the fanzines by cutting and pasting some stuff.
And after "finishing" building the font (you never end that job), comes the extremely fun part of designing the specimen. The graphic design pieces that showcase the possibilities of the typography. Oh là là *
